TOTALLY 90S BAR CRAWL!

Who here has a deep passion for hopping from one bar to another all day and night? I can’t say I have a passion, but I do genuinely love drinking and experiencing different places while I’m at it. Because of this, I decided to try out the 90s Bar Crawl! This was my first legitimate bar crawl I signed up for and I honestly wasn’t sure of what to expect. I also questioned why a bar crawl is called a bar crawl in the first place. Did the person who come up with it try to be funny in the sense you would drink so much you’d end up crawling from bar to bar? I’m not 100% on the answer but spoiler, I survived!

My sweet friend invited me out and I’m glad she did! Prior to letting the crawl begin, we grabbed some lunch to fill us up at Mandola’s, which is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Austin! I tried one of their sandwiches for the first time (I wasn’t in a big pasta mood that day) and go the “Mandola’s Hero”. It had salami, capicola, soppressata, mortadella, prosciutto, and provolone in it and with some many flavors, it was absolutely delicious! I also ordered a frozen sangria with it. They are so refreshing, I hardly ever pass them up!
We went back to my place to change in our outfits and headed down! I debated whether I wanted to be creative and come up with a vintage 90s outfit, but I had my Cher from Clueless costume from a couple Halloweens ago that I was dying to find a reason to wear again. I love channeling my inner fashion diva and Cher is a prime example of this.
Looking at the list, there was a total of 15 bars, all with drink specials! You can find the list below, but as we started at 5, there was no way we were going to hit them all and enjoy our time at each bar.

Yea… that’s a lot of alcohol! We hit 6 bars plus a couple that aren’t on the list, so 9 bars total was pretty good in my opinion!

We started at Blind Pig, where everyone goes to start since you get your 90s wristband (a slap on bracelet, throwback!) and color changing cup. Blind Pig was my favorite bar on sixth street while I was in college, so it’s always fun to go back (even though I feel like I’ve outgrown the whole crazy night on sixth stage in my life). It was crazy because I was already being asked to take photos with people because of my costume. I didn’t expect that, but it was an awesome feeling!

Afterwards, we went to Toulouse specifically for their mason jar drinks. I get nervous sometimes of sixth street for the quality of alcohol and drinks, and this was proven true. I drank about a third of my drink when I noticed a black spot at the top of my mason jar. I looked closer and I believe it was some kind of mold or mildew. Ew! I stopped drinking immediately and prayed I didn’t get sick.

We then went to Burnside Tavern, The Lodge, Cheers, Firehouse Lounge (a cool speakeasy off of sixth street), Green Light Social, Dogwood, and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. I can’t say I had a drink at every single one of these bars (if I did, some of them were water!), but I think the most memorable drink of these was the Cherry Limeades at Burnside Tavern. I also got my dad’s favorite drink from his disco days, which I was shocked they had, at Firehouse Lounge called a Harvey Wallbanger.
Overall, I have to say, the night was really fun and I loved seeing everyone’s 90s outfits! The Totally 90s throwback group tours around in different cities, so I ‘totally’ recommend checking one out!
