Inspired by Afloral: Neutral Arrangement

Let’s be honest, you can never add enough flowers or greenery to any space. I’ve found this to be true after I furnished the rooms in my house but still felt that there was something missing. I’m convinced that adding plants to any space can brighten up and complete any room!

I saw the arrangement below at Afloral and was completely in love. I feel that it’s the perfect fall feeling arrangement with a feminine touch, that’s also neutral enough to keep up all year long! I didn’t end up creating the exact arrangement due to the bolder, bohemian colors I use in my living room, but it was definitely used as inspo!

Okay, so let’s get into it. I first started by looking at Compote bowls like the one used in the photos above. You can find the bowls pretty much anywhere that sells kitchenware or crafting/floral supplies. I looked at tons of places including Target, Amazon, Michael’s, Joann, etc. and honestly just loved the look and price of the ones at Afloral, so I opted in for a similar one (on sale). Afloral has a lot of other beautiful bowls to consider too! I will add a disclaimer that the bowls are a lot smaller than I had imagined, so make sure you take a look at the dimensions (especially if you’re planning on placing it in a specific space).

Next, you’ll need to pick what your main flower will be in the arrangement. This will be the focal point, so you’ll need a flower that fits the vibe you’re going for. I wanted a blush colored flower that looked similar to the round pink flowers in the Afloral arrangement. I ended up choosing pink peonies from Joann that had a similar look. I would have added roses or some type of other flowers, but the compote bowl could barely fit the 5 flowers I already had in there. If you look at the arrangement above, you’ll also see the fillers used are grass sprays, pampas grass, and some type of faux berry sprays. I continued my shopping haul at Joann where I found long grass sprays (that I ended up trimming) and purple berries. Lastly, I had bought some pink pampas from Joann as well, but they ended up going out of stock. Instead, I bought real pink pampas grass from Afloral. I will say it was a good decision in the end because it adds a little non-faux oomph to the arrangement. If you decide to buy real pampas grass rather than faux, I recommend spraying it lightly with hairspray to avoid shedding.

The real fun begins when it’s time to tie all the pieces together! To do this, I bought a simple $5 pair of wire cutting pliers to snip each stem from the bunches. You can layer the stems in any which way you’d like, but this is how I did it. I first started with the peonies, laying one flower in each direction of the bowl (think north, east, south west) and then bent the last flower’s wire sideways so it could stand upright, in the middle of the bowl. I then cut the grass sprays off the bunch and stuck 4 of them in the bowl, each facing a corner (think NE, SE, SW, NW). I then cut off the berries, where the stems meet together, and placed one above each grass spray. Lastly, I cut the pampas grass off its stem (leaving maybe 1/2 inch of the stem) and placed one above each grass spray/berry stem. For the front two, I actually cut the pampas spray in half so it wouldn’t be too much. I liked this look better than 4 large sprays, but it could work either way!

In the end, I’m SO happy with how this arrangement turned out. It ended up costing around $50, which is a fraction of what it would cost buying something similar that’s professionally done! It’s now an eye catcher in my living room, as you can see below in my bookshelf (:
